Milton L. Wampler Jr., age 82, a resident of Lorain since 1954, passed away, Monday, May 30, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a prolonged illness.
He was born on December 29, 1928 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania to the late Milton L. Wampler Sr. and Sarah (nee George) Wampler.
A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, Milton enlisted on February 28, 1951 and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1953 .
Milton owned and operated Milt’s Barber Shop on Grove Ave. since 1963, semi- retiring in 1992 and finally closing the shop in 2009.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 552 where he received the honor of being named the One Hundreth Worshipful Master.
Milton served as the president of the Lorain Journeymen Barbers International Union Local 268 (AFL-CIO). He managed many local sports teams, including Hungarian Reform Church Softball Team 1974 Champions, Hungarian Reform Church Basketball Champs 1974, Knights of St. John Softball Team 1961.
He had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Milton is survived by his wife of 47 years, Casimira "Kay" M. Wampler (nee Mazzola); daughters, Karen Derby-Lovell (Tim), of Westlake, Darlene Klein (Ken), of Mission Viejo, California, Joyce Gutzeit (Ken), of San Diego, California, Janice Taylor (Tom), of Ramona, California and Laurie Cahill , of Pennsylvania; son, Larry Wampler (Debbie), of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Elisabeth Derby, David Derby, Erika Gutzeit, Lindsay Klein and Lauren Klein; brothers, Merle and Howard Wampler, of Pennsylvania; sisters, Helen Refner, Alice Mathews, Lois Zang and Marjorie Aikin all of Pennsylvania.
The Wampler Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Masonic Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Private burial services will be held.
